The leadership of WOC in EEB was awarded a National Science Foundation (DEB-2317203) grant and the Dartmouth Fannie and Alan Leslie Grant to help support an in-person conference that took place from July 25-27, 2023, at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
The purpose of the meeting was twofold. First, we brought together scientists from a variety of career stages, disciplines, and backgrounds to envision pathways to academic leadership for women of color and non-binary people of color working in ecology, evolution, and environmental fields. What do we want and need and how can affinity groups work together to achieve it? Second, we wanted more science collaborations between WOC scientists - too often we come together to discuss DEI issues and not the science questions we love. We spent time working together on deliverables (e.g. commentary article, RCN grant) and came together in community for a recharge.
